The Roast of Doc Dog

Celebrating 50 Years of Tattooing The Godfather of Las Vegas – Doc Dog

Doc Dog 1977

Doc Dog 1977

Doc Dog, one of the most beloved tattoo artists of our time, is celebrating his 50th year of tattooing! Doc started tattooing back in 1961, and he established the first tattoo shop in San Fernando Valley, California in ’72. But, that was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Doc went on to do the impossible and in 1977, after a two-year battle with the health department he established the first tattoo shop in the heart of Sin City itself, the infamous Las Vegas Tattoo Co.

It was 14 years before another tattoo shop opened its doors in Vegas but by that time Doc and his partner Smilin’ Paul’s legacy had been forever burned into the history of tattooing. Through the years hundreds of tattoo artists from around the world would come to LVTC to party down… Vegas Style!

After countless adventures, Doc moved his home base to Tampa, Florida in 2003. Shortly thereafter, LVTC became the home to one of the industry’s first locally aired reality shows, Tattoo Underground.

Throughout his career Doc has had the privilege of working with and being friends with some of the finest artists in the world. His hospitality outmatched only by his story-telling, everyone in the tattoo industry has stories of Doc, and if ya don’t… well, ya just haven’t met him yet!
